More losses

This year seems to be a year of change and of loss for our family. I wrote a post not too long ago about the losses we experienced in the spring. And now, the season of grieving has continued in our family. At the end of June, my Grandma, Dorothy Labrum, passed away at the age of 88. Next week would have been her 89th birthday.

Although I have never lived in the same city as Grandma, I do have fond memories of my visits with her. Especially the end of summer trips to Oliver where we gorged on fresh peaches, pears, plums, cherries, and corn while freezing and canning all kinds of yummy things to take back to Prince George with us.

I had to put this picture on here because many of my memories of Grandma include her with a deck of cards in her hand, playing all different varieties of solitaire.

Here's Grandma with all 3 of our kids. They didn't get to spend a lot of time with Great Grandma so this visit in the Fall of 2004, when she came and stayed at our house for a few days, was a very special time.
This is my favourite picture of Grandma, when she met Evan for the first time. I scanned it out of his baby scrapbook, thus the interesting border. :)

Dad and I and the Victoria family members gathered for dinner to remember Grandma.
We love you and we miss you Grandma!

This past week, I received news of another loss, not quite so close to home, but still saddening for me. My Great Auntie Evelyn died after a battle with cancer.
Auntie Ev was exciting and exotic to me when I was a kid because she lived in California. :)
Here is a picture of my Grandma (on the right) with Auntie Ev, her only sister.

And the sisters together in January of 2007 (Auntie Ev on the left and Grandma on the right) My heart goes out to my second cousins, Auntie Ev's 6 kids, and their families as they grieve this loss.
