Camping

Although we did sleep in our tent when we went to Kootenay Lake, the kids insisted that we needed to do some "real camping" this summer because it's something we have done every summer for as long as they can remember. So we planned a rather last minute camping trip at the end of August and ended up at a forestry campsite on the Chilliwack River. We managed to time it just right and arrive on the first day that the campfire ban was lifted so we were able to have s'mores, which is of course the most important thing about camping! The kids and I went out on a Thursday and set up camp and Ryan joined us after work on Friday. I have a new appreciation for all the work my wonderful husband does after getting the campsite set up by myself (with the kids' help of course.)

The kids attempted to swim in the river but it ended up being just wading - the water was pretty cold!

Can you tell they're fake sleeping? :)

It was such a nice relaxing trip and I'm so glad the kids convinced us to go. We spent lots of great family time playing cards . . .

and riding bikes

We even attempted to get Rachel to ride without her training wheels, but it wasn't a successful attempt. She really has no desire to learn to ride without them. I suppose she'll figure it out eventually. :)

Evan showing off the fire that he built himself.

Sugary cereals are usually not a part of our diet, but we do splurge and have them as a treat when we are camping. This year it was corn pops, which used to be my favourite when I was a kid. I was almost as excited as the kids to have corn pops for breakfast but I must be getting old because I just felt gross after eating them.

My sweet girls, washing the dishes. Grace informed me that she really liked doing dishes but when I asked her if she would help with dishes at home, she said it was only fun at camping. :)
